They are simply going to school. Why should a child, or anyone, ever have to go through this? I have also pressured politicians to help me. The bills are definitely an exciting step in the right direction, but so many questions remain.
Will they pass? Will they be properly enforced? What will it take to protect children like my son and other students who unknowingly get sick from the air in their schools?
Brandon can no longer go to school because of chemicals he gets exposed to — doctors say they could kill him. The school attempted to convince the student population to refrain from wearing Axe, but they are just kids and that did not work.
My son just wanted to be a regular kid. School was supposed to help him achieve that very reasonable goal, but instead, he has been robbed of his health. When Brandon was 10 years old, I packed his lunch, put him on the school bus, and a child was spraying Axe Body Spray in his class.
We must think about the air our children are breathing at school. We must encourage schools to be fragrance-free. My son is one of the strongest people I know. I often wonder how and when this journey will end. I do know one thing though. I am in it, with him, to win it. I think that we definitely need to put a check on how much chemicals our children are exposed to in school and that includes chemicals used in cleaning and maintenance.
Strong chemicals used on floors and to clean often unventilated bathrooms need to be evaluated for their safety. My son experienced the same problems! Axe body spray is not allowed in our household! I cringe when I see it in stires. It ruined my sons coaching career where I taught school due to most junior high school football players spraying it in the locker room. We spent the night in the ER room after my son inhaled this product after the game when players sprayed it after showering!!!
I really want to know what the problem ingredient ended up being because Axe gives me an instant headache and causes me to choke. I have to hold my breath until away from the wearer to breathe again. Do you know if there is a class action lawsuit against AXE body spray?
My daughter experienced an asthma attack, because some stool the school bus were spraying AXE. Adding to its popularity in juvenile arsons is that age group's affinity with posting their mischief on the Internet, leading kids to one-up each other with increasingly dangerous stunts posted online at sites like YouTube. This week, two boys aged 10 and 11 were charged with arson in Lakewood when they lit a bush on fire "that spread and ignited the side of an apartment building," said Matthews, who added that no one was hurt or injured.
The two primary ingredients in the pressurized four-ounce cans of Axe are alcohol and butane, both of which are highly flammable.
On YouTube, more than videos have been posted online of teenage boys setting fires using Axe as an accelerant. In some clips the young men simply hold a match in front of the can while holding down the button, creating a foot-long stream of flame. In other clips, cans of Axe are thrown into bonfires, and explode in large balls of fire. The primary thing burned in many clips, however, is people. In one video, posted by a user identified only by his handle JPSIBZ, Axe is amply applied to the armpits of one shirtless young man by his friend and then set on fire.
The burned young man shrieks briefly as the deodorant quickly burns and he then falls to the ground laughing.
He does not appear injured, but a handful of children have received second or third degree burns from playing with Axe and fire. In January, a year-old boy received second degree burns when he and friends played with Axe and matches inside the locker room of a Mobile, Ala.
The boys' names were not made public, but police said the victim's burns were comparable to those of a severe sunburn, according to the paper. In a similar incident, a year-old Canadian boy suffered third degree burns on his torso and was taken to the hospital, after a friend playfully doused his clothes with the body spray and set him alight at their Ontario high school.
Burns are the leading cause of accidental death in the home for children under the age of 14 and 40 percent of the fires that kill young children are started by children playing with fire, according to the University of Michigan Trauma Burn Center. If marijuana was dangerous, why would it be prescribed to AIDS or glaucoma patients?
